Fruits & Veggies—More Matters® Month is Here!


It's Fruits & Veggies—More Matters month and Produce for Better Health Foundation is celebrating with a ‘Grab N' Go' theme focused on quick and easy ways to include more fruits and veggies in daily meals and snacks.  A graphic, one for electronic posting and one for print, and sample social media posts and tips are now available on the site. 


No time for ‘Grab N' Go' plans?  No worries as you can celebrate Fruits & Veggies—More Matters month very easily by:

  • Linking to from your website and join the 3,000+ sites that already benefit from our fruit and vegetable consumer information portal.
  • Informing others that September is Fruits & Veggies—More Matters month and encouraging them to make half their plate fruits and veggies at every meal and snack.
  • Encouraging others to try a new fruit and vegetable.  Selection, storage, and preparation tips for more than 100 fruits and vegetables can be found on PBH's consumer website.
  • Championing a fruit and vegetable challenge in your workplace to see who can eat the most during September.

PBH's Newest Research Reports Now Available


Dads are playing an increased role in the food purchases for the family, and helping to prepare family meals and feed young children.  But…how does Dad's role compare to that of Mom's?  A recent review of dads' child feeding practices suggests that there are many gaps in understanding dads' influence or how they differ from moms. Not only is this important for their child's health, but for their own health as well. With this background, the newest consumer research report from PBH, Dads' vs. Moms' Attitudes Related to Fruit & Vegetable Consumption, is now available.  The study, conducted throughout 2014, compared 600 moms with 600 dads.


The research and the development and distribution of the reports were made possible through the generous support of Bayer CropScience, Del Monte Fresh Produce, Monsanto Vegetable Seeds, and Produce Marketing Association.


The second report now available is the third in the series, 2015 Gap Analysis, The Fruit and Vegetable Consumption Challenge: How Federal Spending Falls Short of Addressing Public Health Needs.  Like the previous two reports, it was designed to assess the extent to which federal policy makers, through their spending decisions, have made fruits and vegetables a national public-health priority.  The report's two primary goals are: 1) Illuminate the national stake in greater fruit and vegetable consumption; and 2) Quantify the extent to which spending by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) reflects food consumption recommendations of the current Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2010 and the public health risks associated with inadequate consumption of fruits and vegetables.  To accomplish those goals, the report provides new estimates of:

  • The gap between actual and recommended fruit and vegetable consumption levels.
  • The nationwide health risks and economic costs due to the consumption gap.
  • The extent to which USDA spending related to fruits and vegetables reflects the importance of fruits and vegetables in the 2010 Dietary Guidelines.
  • The degree to which USDA spending on nutrition education addresses the fruit and vegetable consumption gap.
  • The extent to which spending by HHS agencies, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), reflects health risks attributable to inadequate consumption of fruits and vegetables.
  • The size of the federal fruit and vegetable spending gap.

PBH 2015 Webinars: An Archived Resource


PBH offers free webinars on various topics for dietitians and other health professionals who work with consumers to improve diets by increasing fruit and vegetable consumption.  Topics are generally applicable to dietitians who work in extension offices, WIC clinics, supermarkets, or conduct any form of nutrition education or individual counseling.
