A Preview of PBH's 2015 Planned Activities


Consumer Research. Social Media Expansion. Tools for Industry Use. These, along with other focus areas, highlight some of PBH's planned activities for 2015. All of PBH's efforts throughout 2015 will provide information and resources the fruit and vegetable industry can leverage to assist with reaching consumers, understanding behaviors of various customer groups, and increasing sales and consumption of fruit and vegetables.

Consumer Research – PBH will provide key takeaways and insights focused on shopping and consumption patterns and behaviors of various consumer groups through the following research reports, projected to be issued throughout 2015:

  • State of the Plate – This report will focus on trends in fruit and vegetable consumption among Americans, noting insights and opportunities, and will be presented at the 2015 PBH Annual Conference, March 16-18.
  • Dad vs Mom – Stemming from PBH’s annual consumer research, this report will compare and contrast the attitudes and beliefs related to fruit and vegetable purchases and consumption of Dad’s and Mom’s.  This report is anticipated to be available Summer 2015.
  • Mom Report – PBH will update its annual Mom report by the end of 2015. 
  • Other Reports – PBH will also update the National Action Plan to Promote Health Through Increased Fruit and Vegetable Consumption and Report Card, as well as the Gap Analysis, The Fruit & Vegetable Consumption Challenge: How Federal Spending Falls Short of Addressing Public Health Needs. Both reports were last issued by PBH in 2010.  Both reports are anticipated to be available Fall 2015.

Social Media Expansion – If you've participated in one of our monthly Twitter parties, you know they are a fantastic way to broaden the reach and engagement of your organization with consumers. And they are free to join! PBH will have two parties throughout most months in 2015, providing you with the opportunity to expand your consumer reach and exposure. The participants LOVE to receive free prizes – if you are interested in giving away prizes contact Kristen Stevens, We will also have a few more contests and promotions throughout 2015 compared to past years. Be sure to tune-in to our Facebook and Twitter outlets to learn more!


Tools for Industry Use – In addition to the new research reports, store tour and marketing research grants, PBH is also planning to work on a new 100% juice toolkit for supermarket dietitians and a new promotion for Fruits & Veggies—More Matters® month in September. Stay tuned for more details.


Celebrate National Nutrition Month® in March


The theme for National Nutrition Month® this year is “Bite into a Healthy Lifestyle.” PBH will support the month and theme with social media posts you can use as is or customize, and a recipe contest on our social media channels – more details to follow. You can also take advantage of one of our ‘evergreen' marketing toolkits to celebrate National Nutrition Month® through in-store promotions and displays, or through print and online circulars. 2015 Annual Conference Educational Sessions


The PBH Annual Conference: The Consumer Connection not only offers the opportunity to network and meet one-on-one with customers, supermarket dietitians and colleagues, but it also offers a variety of educational sessions. The following are just a few of the scheduled sessions conference attendees will attend.

  • Center Synergy: How to Drive Produce Sales using Center Store Foods
    • A panel of experts will discuss how store sales can be increased when supermarkets show customers how different kinds of produce can be paired with items from the center store.
  • How Activism has Driven the Conversation about Food
    • How do we form our perceptions about food risks? How are we wired to perceive risk? How special interests use this knowledge to manipulate us?  Dr. Bruce Chassy will offer examples using pesticides and GMO’s, giving suggestions on how to discuss these topics with consumers, and help to understand why Peter Sandman concluded that “The risks that kill people and the risk that upset people are completely different.”
  • New Flavors, New Ways: A Fruit & Vegetable Tasting Session
    • This exhibit-style tasting session focuses on specialty fruit and vegetables, sharing information and recipes for each one while dishing a two-bite taste that will make you beg for more.
